I can only speak as a white man whose ancestors came
from Ireland 150 years ago and settled on stolen Mississauga nation land in
what is now southern Ontario, thus going from colonized to colonizers and
assimilating into a system of structured white supremacy. In the name of the profit motive, in the name
of capitalism, that structure has persisted in systemically brutalizing,
murdering and marginalizing black and brown people, while systemically enlisting
and weaponizing white people as its chosen instruments.
At this point, I think it would be deluded to not see
that white people face a stark choice.
They can either stand with black and brown people, reject racism, work
to break down and overthrow this capitalist system of white supremacy and
colonialism, progressively transforming themselves in the process and forging a
new path forward. Or they can become the
bigoted instruments of a rising fascist order that will destroy everything in
its path and threaten the survival of life on earth. That’s the choice. There is nothing in between. Which side are you on?
